The jackpot gives all the players an equal opportunity of winning. For the players to join the jackpot, they will have to purchase a ticket via Lottoland. The tickets cost £2 or $ 3.

History of the EuroJackpot Lottery

The Eurojackpot, launched in 2012 is a transnational lottery opened to the citizens of Europe. The Lotto is opened to 16 countries in Europe. The jackpot starts at € 10 million, and it can build up to € 90 million.

For the participants to win the jackpot, they need to match five correct numbers out of 50 and another two supplementary numbers out of ten. The draw of the lottery is done on Friday at 2100 hours time in Helsinki, while the evaluation of the tickets is done in Denmark and Germany.

The EuroJackpot pay out more frequently. Compared to EuroMillions that pays out 1:139 million EuroJackpot pays 1:90 million.

Before January 31st, 2013, the jackpot lottery had a rule that indicated that if there is no winner in 12 consecutive draws, they will apply the roll down. It means that the jackpot will be awarded to the next winning tier where there is an available winner.

The concept of the EuroJackpot was first proposed in 2006. The primary goal of the jackpot was to offer competition to EuroMillions that had monopolized the market. EuroMillions gained great success in the industry so much so that Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Slovenia met to discuss the possibilities of Eurojackpot. The meeting was held in Denmark in 201, and they proposed that the lottery was to start out in 2012. After the negotiations, Estonia joined the lottery.

The ticket sales began on March 17, 2012, while the first draw was done on 23rd of the same month.

The EuroJackpot is designed to have many different winners, and that is the reason why they have 12 tiers. Most of the winners come from level two, three, and 12.

The differences between the two largest jackpots; EuroMillions and EuroJackpot are significant.

    • EuroJackpot offers winnings across 12 tiers while EuroMillions has 13 tiers
    • The EuroJackpot draw is done once every week on Friday and EuroMillions draw is done twice on Tuesdays and Fridays

Both lotteries have their benefits, but when it comes to the odds of winning, the EuroJackpot is the best option for all the players.

Even though the jackpot draw is limited to only the participating countries, other players from other locations can also participate. They can bet on the outcome of the draw via the official website. Since they will not be involved in the draw, they can bet on the lottery from any location. All players who bet on the outcome of the draw will stand a chance to win the same prizes.

Participating Countries

Not all the countries are eligible to participate in the lottery. EuroJackpot is a European transnational lottery, and that means only the countries in Europe can buy the tickets. The Germany, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Italy, and Estonia were the first countries to join. Spain later joined in 2012. The other companies that joined the lottery were:

  1. Croatia
  2. Iceland
  3. Latvia
  4. Lithuania
  5. Norway
  6. Sweden

All these countries joined in February 2013. In 2014, the Czech Republic and Hungary joined the lottery while Slovakia joined in October 2015.

It is only Spain that participates on both lotteries; EuroJackpot and EuroMillions

Many non-official sites sell the lottery tickets. Some of them are licensed, and others are not. The players should proceed with caution when buying the tickets. The UK Gambling Commission offers the license of operation to the different sites. Using the unlicensed sites has an increased risk of losing the money.

Players are not required by EuroJackpot to deposit money when setting up an account. If the site asks for a deposit, it is not an authorized site.

Countries like Iceland, Italy, and Slovenia have restricted the private sites from selling the tickets.

Weekly Day Draw

The draw of the lottery is carried out every Friday at 2000 hours. The draw is set at €10 million. If there is no winner, the prize money is rolled over to the next draw, and that is how the jackpot grows.

Since February 17th, 2017, there has not been a jackpot winner. The previous jackpot was drawn on February 10th and two winners won €22 million.

Germany has produced more winners in the lottery compared to the other participating countries.

In the March 10, 2017, jackpot draw, the first tier was €31 million. The second tier had four winners who won €372,000.20.

The players with the similar numbers will divide the jackpot winnings equally. However, players can use the unique NumberShield provided by Lottoland. It is a feature that will protect your numbers and allow you to take 100% of your winnings regardless of the number of winners.
